About Leckford Golf

At Leckford, we have two stunning nine-hole golf courses – both managed in harmony with our natural environment to have a uniquely positive impact on local flora and fauna.

Award winning

Leckford Old Course was 7th in the Top 100 courses in Hampshire and came 5th in Golf.com’s best 9 hole course in the world.

The Team

Daniel, the Golf Manger, manages the golf courses and the cricket ground. Daniel grew up in Leckford and has a strong family association with the Estate. He heads up an experienced and dedicated team of greenkeepers.

The greenkeepers are all experienced in fine turf management, which requires a very specific set of skills, along with the knowledge and forward thinking to maintain the greens sustainably. Being a fine greenkeeper is one part of the job, the team are also all committed to making sure members, guests and visiting groups feel welcome and have the very best day on the Courses.

Our History

The John Lewis Partnership was founded by Spedan Lewis, as part of his wider vision the Courses became something that could be enjoyed by the Partnership’s Partners (employees), as a way to spend their leisure time to wind down, chill out and relax! Today the courses are still used and enjoyed by employees as well as many other golfers.

The Old Course being constructed in 1929 was initially just for private use but soon opened to the wider public and was known as the Leckford and Longstock Golf Club, named after the two villages that form Leckford Estate and sit either side of the beautiful River Test.

Although not taking anything away from the original design, the Old Course was given over as land to be used for arable farming during the second world war. This was a common occurrence during these times.

Fast forward to the 1980’s and a new course was added which became known as The New Course at Leckford. The designer, modern Elizabethan Donald Steel, made sure that the course was designed to provide enjoyment and not to be too testing for the golfer.

Today the courses are well respected by our members, guests and visitors from all over the world, and we’re proud to manage the courses and still provide a stunning and relaxing place for this leisure activity, as was the vision of the founder Spedan Lewis.
