Members of the John Spedan Lewis trust work in collaboration with many organisations and work closely with Leckford Estate to improve education of, and promote research about, the natural sciences.

Before retiring he worked in food technology and agriculture at Waitrose and was already a trustee. An advocate of growing sustainable food and a campaigner for raising awareness of potato varieties, having published two books on the subject. Alan believes working closely with Leckford estate and the local community is vital to the Trust’s work.

Glynne

A lifelong enthusiast of the natural world who has been involved with bird surveys across Hampshire for over 50 years. Glynne leads a programme on the estate to monitor moth species and takes part in the national butterfly monitoring schemes. He understands the importance of the natural world to us all, and that the monitoring and recording of natural species and plants is vital work that can influence the way we live and work.

A zoology graduate from the University College of Dublin, with a master’s from Leeds University, looking at land use change and bee and wasp communities. Megan has a keen interest in pollination and ecosystems and has done a PhD on pollination and pest management in apple orchards. Looking at bees, hoverflies and natural enemies of aphids. She works as a Technical Manager and is absolutely passionate about sustainable agriculture and the need to bring ideas and people together to pursue economically, environmentally and socially resilient and sustainable food supply chains.

Nick trained and worked as an entomologist working on farmland. He has a degree in agricultural zoology from Newcastle University and a Phd in agricultural entomology from the University of Southampton. His research interests now extend to woodland, moorland, the river and anywhere where the application of science can resolve wildlife declines and bring about recovery. Nick was awarded the RASE Research medal and the British Crop Protection Council medal in 2005 for his contribution to agricultural science. He is also an honorary visiting Professor at the University of Exeter.

Andrew

Trustee

Andrew is currently the Farming Manager on the Waitrose & Partners Farm. His current responsibilities include a 600 beef suckler herd and 2000 acres of arable crops, apple and pear orchards, vineyards and environmental conservation. Andrew has spent his whole life in agriculture and has 25 years of farm and estate management experience. He has a degree and PhD in agricultural science from the University of Aberdeen, he went to work with Wye College (University of London) and then Imperial College, managing their diverse farm in Kent. Prior to joining Leckford Estate he managed an organic farming estate in Kent.
