The Brief & Vision

Our clients wished to breathe new life into an unused and shaded area of their garden. The objective was to move away from the limitations of a traditional lawn and instead create an immersive woodland retreat. The vision was to transform a dormant space into an attractive natural area with year-round visual appeal.

Our Design Approach

Drawing on our team’s understanding of shade-tolerant ecology, we suggested a palette of plants that showcase texture and subtle tonal shifts. The design focused on 'island borders' - a  technique used to create natural movement and depth. By layering heights and foliage types, we ensured the garden feels established and purposeful, providing interest even in the deepest mid winter shadows.

The Installation

Precision is at the heart of every one of our installations. To ensure longevity and defined aesthetic, we used metal edging to outline the borders, a subtle but practical detail that prevents material migration and maintains the garden's planting boundaries. The meandering paths were finished with wood chips, providing a soft, sensory experience underfoot that blends perfectly with the surrounding woodland theme.

The Finished Result

The result is a tranquil, revitalised outdoor space that transforms an unused area into one of the highlights of the garden. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to delivering thoughtful, expert landscaping that respects the natural environment while providing a functional and interesting space for our clients to enjoy.
