Looking After the Water Garden

Longstock Park Water Garden is maintained by just a small team of dedicated gardeners, who work tirelessly to maintain the immaculate landscape and unique character of the Garden.

Our Team dedicated to looking after the Garden & Grounds of Longstock Park

Rob has been Manager of the gardens & grounds since x and is passionate about maintaining this private garden in a way that works in harmony with nature and its surroundings.   He is assisted by Elaine who works tirelessly to introduce new ideas into the garden for new and returning visitors.  Working with Rob & Elaine is a small team all equally passionate and dedicated to making sure the garden is a place visitors can enjoy now and for many years to come.

Did you know…… all 2.5 miles of edges are weeded once a fortnight!

Working with nature the Gardeners eliminate slug and snail eggs which have been laid within the foliage, by cutting all the edges back fastidiously ensuring the following year’s growth goes unblemished.  It's just one of the many ways we look to work alongside nature while keeping the garden looking its best!

As Longstock Park Water Garden sits in a frost pocket, with temperatures potentially dropping as perilously low as -18 degrees celsius during the winter months, special care is taken to protect certain plants through the winter.  In particular the glorious Gunnera!

Head to the thatched summerhouse to see how the team protects the magnificent Gunnera from the winter frosts.
