Our Garden Guide for February and March
Make the most of our early spring offers! This quick guide will help you get ahead with perennials, fruit and ornamental trees, roses and flowering bulbs.
Bare Root Hedging
Use bare root hedging to create privacy in your garden, repair an existing hedge or add structure to your garden. The best time to plant? Late winter or early spring, when the plants are still dormant. Water bare root hedging regularly, especially during the first growing season.
Summer Flowering Bulbs
The perfect time to plant summer flowering bulbs is in early spring, once the last of any frost has passed. Make sure they've got a sunny spot with well-drained soil and water them well, especially if it hasn't rained for a while.
Soft Fruit, Fruit Trees and Ornamental Trees
Plant fruit trees and ornamental trees while it is still cool but be aware of any late frosts. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil for your fruit and ornamental trees to thrive. Water newly planted trees regularly, especially during the first growing season.
Roses
Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil, making sure you’ve seen the last of any frosts. Add in a layer of mulch to help get them off to a good start. Regular watering, especially during dry spells, will keep them blooming beautifully.
Perennial Plants
Plant perennial plants once the last frosts have passed. Position in a sunny or partially shady spot with well-drained soil. Water new perennials regularly, especially during the first growing season.
So, why wait? Come and visit us at Longstock Park Nursery today, or any time during February and take advantage of these great offers. Get a head start on creating the garden of your dreams, ready for the seasons ahead.
