Garden Ready

07 Feb 2021

In February the weather can be unpredictable but it's also the month when we can see the beginnings of spring.

On the Leckford Estate in Longstock Park, swathes of Snowdrops have appeared, as they always do at this time of year and they will be followed by the bright yellow joy of Daffodils.  Even though we all find ourselves in unusual and unpredictable times, for nature this regular pattern continues and never fails to delight.

Gardeners, like nature, know that this is a time to get busy and start preparing for the season ahead.  Whether you are sprucing up pathways and patios, tidying up the unruly hedging or planning which seeds to sow in the coming months, we have it covered at Longstock Park Nursery Garden Shop.  We also have a great team of horticultural specialists and keen gardeners themselves, who are on hand seven days a week to help and advise.

Grow your own

We have a wide selection of seed potatoes available and now is the time to prepare if you want to enjoy home grown potatoes later this year.  Our Garden Shop at Longstock Park Nursery stocks a variety of seed potatoes that could  keep you supplied throughout the year, as well as all the tools and equipment you need to get you started.  Growing potatoes is easy, once you have selected your favourite variety, place them in a tray with the maximum number of eyes facing upwards, then place the tray in a cool light spot until they have sprouts 1-2 cm long.  They can then be planted out into your garden and don’t worry if you don’t have a large garden, as you can always grow these in a pot on the patio.

If you're new to gardening or new to seed potatoes, speak to our Nursery Partners, they are more than happy to help and advise.

Love for Roses

February is also the month to start thinking about Roses…  and not just for Valentine’s day.  Now is the time to plant the Roses you love and that will provide you with blooms for later in the season.  Come and see our selection at Longstock Park Nursery,  from ramblers and climbers, to Roses for ground cover or ones that look simply stunning in a pot on the patio.
