Leckford Estate Brut, English Sparkling Wine
Our Leckford Estate Brut is a stunning sparkling wine produced from the grapes grown on the Waitrose Farm and with the expertise of the award-winning wine-makers at Ridgeview. Indeed, our Brut was a Silver Medal Winner in the Champagne and Sparkling World Championships 2014!
The 4.7 hectare Leckford vineyard was planted in 2009 and the first harvest was taken in 2011, a predictably small tonnage of grapes but enough to make 2,500 bottles of sparkling white wine. Subsequent harvests have yielded larger volumes to the point that the 57 tonnes of grapes harvested in 2014 have generated nearly 38,000 bottles.
The Leckford Brut is a soft blend, containing around 55% Chardonnay grape, 25% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. It has the aromas of toasted brioche and hazelnuts with peach and citrus flavours. The 2012 vintage Brut is available to purchase from our Farm Shop, selected Waitrose stores and on Waitrose Cellar.
